The department consists of three sections which are used to classify students and subjects that they can study as follows:

Language Education section

This section includes students and staff specialising in the following languages:

• English,
• African languages,
• French,
• Classics

Mathematics and Science Education section

This section includes students and staff specialising in the following subjects:

• Biology,
• Chemistry,
• Mathematics, and
• Physics

Social Studies Education section

This section includes students and staff specialising in the following subjects:

• Geography,
• History,
• Home Economics,
• Religious studies.

As a future plan, the sections in the Department should devolve into stand alone departments.
