Welcome to the Department of Curriculum and Teaching Studies (CATS) at Chancellor College, University of Malawi. As you browse through our website, you will find interesting and helpful information on our academic programs, research projects, staff, students’ activities and latest news.

CATS Department is responsible for teaching methodology courses to both undergraduate and postgraduate students pursuing various programmes within the School of Education. The Department also offers postgraduate programmes in curriculum and teaching studies in three major areas:

  • Language education
  • Science and mathematics education
  • Social studies education

We started our journey in the year 1988. Over the past two and half decades, we have grown from just offering undergraduate courses for training secondary school teachers to PhD programmes in curriculum and teaching studies. The Department has produced graduates who are currently working in academia, government, non-governmental organisations and in industry, within and outside Malawi.

Feel free to contact us with any questions or requests for more information concerning our Department.
